== Installation ==

Installing foonas on a PPC Linkstation is fairly simple if you already have flashed it with a telnet/ftp-enabled, uboot-compatible firmimg.bin. This allows easy access to EM-mode and ftp transfer of the boot-strap image, setting up partition(s), untarring the image, and creating the symlink for the kernel.

==== Obtaining uboot ====

You may either download uboot 1.2.0 for lsppchg from [http://downloads.nas-central.org/Users/timtimred/lsppchg/u-boot-lsppchg-1.2.0-r2.bin here], or compile one yourself using our openembedded based toolchain. If you are compiling your own u-boot sources you must ensure you are using a version that supports FDT for your device. To compile your own uboot [[OpenEmbedded:Install|install our toolchain]] and then:

==== Installing uboot ====

Place a copy of uboot on the drive of your Linkstation.   Boot into EM-mode or any 2.4 kernel, and flash in the [http://buffalo.nas-central.org/index.php/U-boot_bootloader  standard way(s)].   Once you have flashed uboot to your Linkstation, you should be able to connect via [http://buffalo.nas-central.org/index.php/NetCat-A_UBoot-Friendly_Network_Utility netcat] from a terminal with the command:

Note: If you previously changed any environmental variables in a prior setup of uboot (e.g. an earlier version of uboot), you will probably have to restore to defaults by issuing the following commands, while connected via netcat, to the uboot console:

==== Obtaining foonas ====

You may either download foonas for lsppchg from [http://downloads.foonas.org/foonas/alpha/lsppchg/ here], or compile one yourself using our openembedded based toolchain. Building from our svn is not supported for users but to do this [[OpenEmbedded:Install|install our toolchain]] and then:

 ''$ cd /stuff/build''
 ''$ bitbake bootstrap-image''

==== Installing foonas ====

Assuming that you have already set up your partitions and swap, place a copy of the bootstrap-image on a previously setup ext3 filesystem partition 1 (/sda1) with swap on the second partition (/sda2), and while in EM-mode untar the image file with:

 ''$ tar xzvf foonas-bootstrap-image*tar.gz''

If you have more partitions on your hard drive, you will have to declare them in /etc/fstab, but note that foonas uses a PATA driver.  Therefore, use /sdaX (instead of /hdaX) in your fstab lines.

=== Reboot and login ===

Reboot and wait for about 1-2 minutes.  The initial boot requires a bit more time for ssh and http services to be brought up.  Subsequent boots will be much faster.

On any dhcp enabled network, you should be able to connect to your Linkstation via '''web-browser''' at http://<ip address of your linkstation>  or http://lsppchg.local .   Login with these:

 username = root
 password = hydr0g3n

Using '''ssh''' ''and the same password as above'', you can also access your foonas-equipped Linkstation this way:

 ssh root@<ip address of your linkstation>
